Tuning: CGDGCD, Capo 5 Written in: Swannanoa, NC & Mt. Juliet, TN 2003
Written in yet another Swannanoa Gathering class - this time with Carrie Newcomer - this song is about my hope for Meagan's future. I hope she takes time to travel and learn about the different cultures on the planet not just from books and professors, but from actually visiting. So, this is a time-travel daddy's wish Americana-style.
With an humble dignity the red planet shines in the early morning mist
Meanwhile she ambles on in laughing gratitude of the new day’s gifts
Her feet fall upon the gravel moving her from here to there
Always coming back home again
Larks call from towering cornstalks - serenade from there to here
Always coming back home again
She’s bumping the back roads, hitching a hike, roaming the pathways & terrain
She’s living the moment, wandering now,
Wondering how she’s always coming back home again
In the noontime of the day - down the road and back again
She takes a pebble from her shoe
Jet trails so high and mighty cut the clouds then gone again
Leave the sky a brighter blue
Her feet fall upon the gravel moving her from here to there
Always coming back home again
The heat hauls her back to shady, lifts her life from there to here
Always coming back home again
She’s bumping the back roads, hitching a hike, roaming the pathways & terrain
She’s living the moment, wandering now,
Wondering how she’s always coming back home again
“Again” calls the future. “Attend” cries the now.
“Remember” echoes the former. Coming back home somehow.
With a certain destiny Orion climbs the skies in the early evening chill
Meanwhile she takes her rest with gracious attitude for the chance to be still
Her dreams crawl upon this travel moving her from here to there
Always coming back home again
She’s bumping the back roads, hitching a hike, roaming the pathways & terrain
She’s living the moment, wandering now,
Wondering how she’s always coming back home again.
